Erica Peldon, from South Harting in Sussex, described her hellish ordeal after mistaking a text message from a friend for a prank from a friend – who she knew was on the Isle of Wight. She said: “I had just received a message via Facebook from a friend who lives in the Isle of Wight, asking me what the Isle of Wight was like. “I thought it was a very clever joke to see if I had been transported there because I didn’t think I would have been. “I was shocked. I just couldn’t understand how I could have been transported to somewhere else – I was obviously on the Isle of Wight. “My friend replied to my confusion by asking whether I’d been born in the Isle of Wight – it was a bit of a funny message but I didn’t get it.” Erica told the BBC the entire episode was like ‘Nightmare’ – she added: “It was so strange and surreal and it was just so weird.” She said she rang the emergency services as she was convinced she would be rescued – but they didn’t answer. Then she realised no one knew where she was, and she was so scared she started to cry. She added: “I was crying so much I didn’t even want to leave, and I was shaking so much. “I had been trying to get home since morning and I realised I didn’t know how to get home. “When I came to I was shocked to see people – they thought I was on drugs. I didn’t feel safe and it was terrifying. “I’m really frightened that something like this could happen to someone else.” It is believed Erica was on the Isle of Wight in September.
